HOT TOTTIE HONEY LEMON COUGH SYRUP WITH COCONUT OIL

Hot Tottie, Fresh squeezed Blood Orange + Navel + Tangerine Juice, and Ginger Chews

Written by contibutor Britney Manuel of Btanjerine.

Well I thought that I could escape from getting sick, but alas I have succumb ((sniff sniff cough cough)).  I remembered this honey lemon concoction circulating around Facebook and Pinterest (it has been pinned over 800+ times) and thought it was worth a try.   I have adapted this recipe from The Coconut Mama.  You can find the original recipe here, with all the informative health benefits.  I made a bigger batch so that I could sip it over the course of a couple of days.  And since my daughter just got sick as well, it was perfect to have on hand.

HOT TOTTIE HONEY LEMON COUGH SYRUP WITH COCONUT OIL

Ingredients

6 lemons
1 blood orange (or any other type of orange)
1/4 cup of coconut oil
1/3 cup of raw honey

Directions

Juice lemons and blood orange.  Warm the coconut oil until it melts and mix all ingredients together and enjoy.

Sip as much as needed, and store in the refrigerator.  The coconut oil will harden when it is cold, so gently warm the portions you need until the coconut oil melts.

Makes 2 1/2 cups

This would make a great gift for this flu season.  A jar of the hot tottie,  ginger chews that you can find here, and freshly squeezed blood orange juice.  A trio sure to help anybody feel a little more pep in their step!

HUFFINGTON POST: HUFFPOST TASTE + MATCHA GREEN TEA LATTE

I am back into the swing of things now after a week out of the country and trying to get over my jet lag.  Things are different in China... you cannot use Facebook or Blog sites like Blogger on any computer there.  It was  a great work trip, but it is definitely good to be home, back to familiar things.
I feel like it has been ages since I have posted and I do apologize.

Matcha Green Tea Latte

What a great surprise to find my Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe on the Huffinton Post Taste section when I arrived home!  Check out their article on Immune Boosting Foods: 14 Healthy Recipes.  The Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe is #14.

If you missed it before, here it is.  I could really use one right now.  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and have a great week!

DRINK: MATCHA GREEN TEA LEMONADE

If you like the drink Arnold Palmer (a mix of half lemonade and half iced tea) like my husband does, you will love this tasty drink.  On our recent jont out to True Food Kitchen, I had their Matcha Green Tea Lemonade and fell in love with it.  I love green tea, but in the middle of summer heat, you really don't feel like drinking a hot cup of tea.  This drink was so freshing and flavorful.

You can pick up Matcha, which is a stone ground green tea powder, from your local Whole Foods, or Asian Food Store.  This time I decided to try the one from Republic of Tea.

INGREDIENTS

For the Agave Lemonade Base:

1 ½ cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6 lemons)
6 cups water
¾ cup agave nectar (or to taste)
1 tablespoon peeled and finely grated ginger root

Stir together the lemon juice, water and agave nectar. Stir in the grated ginger if desired, and chill thoroughly.

For the Matcha Tea Base: Steeping Instructions for two servings

Fill the kettle with fresh, filtered water and heat to just short of boiling. Fill the matcha bowl with 1 teaspoon of matcha powder.  Blend in 1-2 tablespoons of the hot watern and wisk.  Pour 8 oz of cold water and stir.

Fill a glass with half matcha tea and half lemonde.  Garnish with a lemon wedge and a straw and sip.

So refreshing!  Enjoy!

Additional Information on Matcha
CAFFEINE:
On average, Matcha contains less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee.

Finally, are my shots I took of True Food Kitchen on Instagram...
